What is the cause of nocturnal twitching

The symptoms of convulsions are quite common in life, and are usually caused by physical illness. Therefore, convulsions need to be dealt with promptly and correctly to prevent serious sequelae. Most convulsions occur in stages. For example, nocturnal convulsions are a common symptom. Let’s take a look at the causes of nocturnal convulsions. I hope everyone can understand it.

Sleep twitching refers to the involuntary twitching of muscles all over the body when a person is about to fall asleep. This process is often accompanied by a feeling of free fall or even vague dreams, and is likely to lead to awakening. Generally, sleep twitches will not affect sleep, but if they occur too frequently, they may lead to periodic limb movement disorder, turning you into a "twitching man" and causing insomnia.

Trembling and startling while sleeping are usually caused by three reasons. First, this may be a normal phenomenon during sleep, called sleep myoclonus. Its main manifestation is slight twitching of fingers or toes, or rapid shaking of lower limbs or even the whole body during light sleep, but it does not affect sleep and is generally harmless. However, once it affects sleep, it is best to do long-term EEG monitoring to rule out the possibility of epilepsy. Secondly, similar symptoms may occur when there is a lack of vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency may lead to low serum calcium and increased neuromuscular excitability, resulting in symptoms of convulsions and tetany. Blood calcium, phosphorus, and alkaline phosphatase tests can be done. Again, some external factors, such as the sleeping environment (temperature, light, noise, etc.) and cultural factors may cause sleep disorders and lead to body convulsions.

Twitching while sleeping can be avoided. Teenagers and middle-aged and elderly people should pay more attention to their daily diet and supplement more minerals (calcium is the most needed). Friends who are prone to twitching while sleeping can do some stretching exercises before going to bed and pay more attention to keeping their hands and feet warm (especially in winter).
