Epilepsy is a relatively common disease. There are many causes of epilepsy, which are often related to abnormal discharges of nerves in the brain. Epilepsy is commonly known as epilepsy. This disease is relatively difficult to treat, especially for some infants and young children. Epilepsy should be taken more seriously. We should pay attention to timely and good treatment. During the regular treatment process, some folk remedies can also be used.

What causes epilepsy?

1. Congenital diseases: such as chromosomal abnormalities, hereditary metabolic disorders, brain malformations and congenital hydrocephalus.

2. Trauma: Craniocerebral birth injury is a common cause of symptomatic epilepsy in infancy. Contusion, hemorrhage and ischemia can also cause local brain tissue softening, which may become an epileptic focus in the future. About 5% of adults develop epilepsy after closed head trauma; the incidence of epilepsy in severe and open head trauma is even higher, reaching about 30%.

3. Intracranial tumors: For patients who develop epilepsy after the age of 30, brain tumors are a common cause, in addition to brain trauma, especially slow-growing gliomas, meningiomas, astrocytomas, etc.

4. Except for epilepsy caused by vascular malformations which occurs at a younger age, epilepsy due to cerebrovascular disease is more common in middle-aged and elderly people. Both hemorrhagic and ischemic cerebrovascular diseases can cause epilepsy. About 5% of patients develop epilepsy about one year after the onset of the disease.

5. In daily life, lack of dietary moderation, changes in temperature, invasion of cold and heat, and other dietary and living factors are also important problems in epilepsy attacks. For example, frequent excessive consumption of greasy food, overeating, excessive consumption of raw, cold and unhygienic food, etc. may all be causes of the disease.
