How many heart stents can be placed

At the current level of medical science, there is no literature that can clearly explain how many heart stents can be installed. However, heart surgery can cause great harm to the human body. Patients who have undergone heart stent surgery must keep a happy and calm mood in their lives and must not become emotionally excited, otherwise it will harm their health. The following are some of the things you need to pay attention to during heart stent surgery:

How many heart stents can be placed at most?

In fact, there is currently no relevant literature report indicating how many vascular stents can be installed in a person's body.

Each patient's condition is different, the location of the lesion is different, and it is not certain how many stents the diseased blood vessels can accept. While achieving the therapeutic purpose, stents should be placed as little as possible.

At present, when performing heart stent surgery in our country, if more than three stents need to be implanted, multiple doctors are required to consult to ensure the patient's surgical safety. If the situation is severe or too many stents are needed, doctors may consider bypass surgery or other treatments. So, who decides how many stents to put in cardiovascular system?

The number of stents to be placed in the cardiovascular system is determined by the diseased blood vessels. This depends on three factors: the number of diseased blood vessels, the length of the diseased blood vessels, and the number of times stents are placed.

01. Number of diseased blood vessels

There are three coronary arteries in the heart, and these three coronary arteries are connected to large and small branch blood vessels. There may be multiple diseased blood vessels suitable for stent placement. If there are problems with two blood vessels, at least two stents are needed. Therefore, the number of diseased blood vessels directly determines the minimum number of stents required.

02. Length of diseased blood vessels

Stent intervention surgery is a procedure that delivers stents to the site of coronary artery lesions through peripheral blood vessels to clear blocked blood vessels. Therefore, if the length of the lesion is greater than the maximum length of the stent, one stent is definitely not enough, and two or even more stents will need to be connected to the lesion. Therefore, the length of the diseased blood vessel also determines the number of stents needed.

03. Number of times stents are placed

After a stent is implanted at the same location, if it is not properly cared for, it may become restenotic. After restenosis, a second operation may be required depending on the patient's condition. Therefore, patients may have multiple stent implants at the same vascular lesion site. In this case, the number of times stents are placed also determines the number of stents placed.

Is it a permanent solution to put a stent in place?

That is not the case. If the patient does not receive proper care after a heart stent surgery, there is a high possibility of restenosis of the blood vessels. After restenosis, depending on the specific situation, if the patient's heart and blood vessel restenosis is not serious, drug treatment can be performed. If the symptoms are very serious, another stent may be inserted or other surgical treatments may be required. Restenosis after stenting is related to many factors, such as not taking medication regularly or poor control of risk factors: smoking, high blood pressure, and high blood lipids are all causes of heart and blood vessel restenosis.

Even if symptoms are relieved after stent placement or bypass surgery, it does not mean that all problems of coronary heart disease have been solved. The cause of coronary artery stenosis is still there, so even if intervention or bypass surgery has been performed, subsequent anticoagulant and lipid-lowering treatment must be maintained. Many patients do not manage themselves properly after surgery and need multiple surgeries to save their lives.
