What causes a stuffy nose with blood?

A stuffy nose with blood is a very common condition in people's daily life. This condition has a great impact on people's breathing, and it may also be caused by a serious disease, such as nasopharyngeal cancer. People should understand this situation in time and take measures to deal with it to prevent more serious phenomena. Let's take a detailed introduction to what is a stuffy nose with blood?

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma is a serious disease, but its symptoms can be easily confused with rhinitis. Some people often have nasal congestion and bloody nasal discharge, which is often mistaken for an attack of rhinitis. Is this really the case?

In fact, nasal congestion is another early manifestation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Wang Chenghua, deputy chief physician of the Department of Otolaryngology at Jinshazhou Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, said in an interview with Family Doctor Online that most of the symptoms are unilateral nasal congestion. As nasopharyngeal tumors enlarge, bilateral nasal obstruction may occur. Blood in the nasal discharge is an early symptom of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which manifests as blood in the nasal discharge or blood in the nasal discharge that is sucked back from the mouth, also known as blood in the respired sputum. Hemorrhage often occurs in the morning after getting up. When the amount of blood in the mucus is not large, it is often neglected by patients, who mistake it for rhinitis or sinusitis, or they go to the internal medicine department for treatment of hemoptysis.

So, besides blockage and bloody nasal discharge, what other symptoms are there in the early stages of nasopharyngeal cancer? Deputy Chief Physician Wang Chenghua said that there are three more easily confused symptoms to pay attention to:

Tinnitus and hearing: A feeling of blockage in the ear. When nasopharyngeal carcinoma occurs in the lateral wall of the nasopharynx, the lateral fossa, or the upper lip of the Eustachian tube opening, the tumor compresses the Eustachian tube and may cause unilateral tinnitus or hearing loss, and catarrhal otitis media may also occur. Unilateral tinnitus or hearing loss and a feeling of blockage in the ear are one of the early symptoms of nasopharyngeal cancer.

1. Try to avoid inhaling harmful fumes, such as kerosene lamp gas, insecticide aerosols, etc., and actively quit smoking and drinking. These are relatively good preventive measures for nasopharyngeal cancer.

2. If you have nasopharyngeal diseases, you should seek medical treatment as soon as possible. If you find blood in your nasal discharge or blood in your nasal discharge after sneezing, or if you have unexplained swollen lymph nodes in the neck or fluid in the middle ear, you should have a detailed nasopharyngeal examination in time.

3. Pay attention to climate changes, prevent colds, maintain nose and throat hygiene, and other prevention measures for nasopharyngeal cancer, and avoid viral infections.

4. Eat a balanced diet, choose more foods containing antioxidants, increase fiber intake, reduce fat intake, and maintain an ideal weight. Dietary adjustment: A balanced diet should be adopted. Eat more vegetables and fruits, eat less or no salted fish, pickles, smoked meat, cured meat and other foods containing nitrosamines. Avoid spicy and stimulating foods and avoid excessive drinking.

5. To enhance resistance, you should pay attention to lifestyle adjustments and avoid physical overwork: heavy physical labor, staying up late, excessive physical exercise, etc., can cause the body's internal environment to become unbalanced, resistance to decline, and promote the occurrence and spread of nasopharyngeal cancer.
