Dangers of air fryers

Dangers of air fryers

Air fryers have become quite popular in recent years. They are convenient to use and have many advantages, allowing many foods to be fried very well. However, you should also pay attention to some precautions when using an air fryer. Although the fat content of some foods made from them is relatively low, because the temperature exceeds 120 degrees during heating, it is easy to lead to the production of some carcinogens, so you should pay attention to this aspect.

Air fryer hazards

Compared with ordinary frying, food cooked in an air fryer does have a lower fat content, but its heating temperature exceeds 120°C, which will also produce acrylamide, a suspected carcinogen.

Starchy foods are prone to produce acrylamide when cooked at high temperatures (>120°C). Studies have shown that the human body can be exposed to acrylamide through multiple pathways, including the digestive tract, respiratory tract, skin and mucous membranes, and drinking water is one of the important exposure pathways. Studies have reported that acrylamide has been detected in some fried and grilled starchy foods, such as French fries and potato chips, and the content is more than 500 times the maximum limit allowed in drinking water.

According to research by the Hong Kong Consumer Council, foods containing carbohydrates will produce acrylamide after being fried. Studies have shown that acrylamide can cause cancer.

However, the World Health Organization said that it is difficult to calculate the concentration of acrylamide that is carcinogenic.

Advantages of air fryers

Small footprint

If your kitchen is not large, a large oven will take up a lot of space, but an air fryer is usually only slightly larger than a rice cooker, making it very easy to move.

No fuel consumption

It is easy to make food for 1-2 people and fry as much as you want. Unlike real fried food, because you use such a big pot of oil, you have to fry a lot of food, and if it is not finished immediately, it will not taste good.

Clean and worry-free

Just wait for the air fryer to cool down, then rinse the pot inside under water, or wipe it with a clean rag. Compared with other pots, is the air fryer much easier to clean?

Save time and effort in developing control systems

Have a formulated control system. Except for shaking the frying basket for the first few minutes, there is no need for anyone to watch it afterwards. When the temperature is too high, it will automatically adjust and there will be no burning phenomenon. You just need to set the corresponding time, and the air fryer will stop automatically when the time comes.

Less oil consumption without losing taste, energy saving and environmental protection

This type of cookware uses factors produced by high-speed air circulation to act on ingredients, making them crisp quickly.

The oil in the ingredients can be fried out to reduce the fat content of the ingredients. When using this pan to fry French fries or meat, you don’t need to add oil at all and you can just do it directly.
