How to cure chicken skin

When chicken skin appears on the skin, it will be a little itchy when touched, and it will greatly affect the overall aesthetics of the skin. This will cause many people to choose some relief methods to improve this situation. Generally speaking, there is no way to completely cure it. After all, this disease is a congenital disease. It can only be relieved by supplementing vitamins to make the degree of chicken skin less obvious.

Chicken skin, scientifically known as keratosis pilaris, is a hereditary disease. It is caused by keratinization of the hair follicle opening, which affects the growth of vellus hair, so the skin surface feels rough. In more serious cases, the pores will become darker in color, appearing dark red or brown, and the particles will become rougher. In fact, there is a curly hair in each small papule, which looks very much like goose bumps, so keratosis pilaris is also commonly known as "chicken skin."

"Chicken skin" is a physical condition caused by genes. For people with this physical condition, the keratin around the hair follicles will thicken, causing the hair follicle openings to be blocked by the excessive keratin, forming small bumps. In autumn and winter, the keratin of the skin thickens, and the "chicken skin" becomes more serious, and some even show symptoms of "ichthyosis". This is just because the extremely dry weather causes the skin to appear uneven in color, like fish scales. "Chicken skin" is related to vitamin A deficiency, and you can take vitamin AD pills appropriately.

"Chicken skin" is natural and cannot be "completely cured", but it can be effectively improved. [1]

Gentle Exfoliation

Because "chicken skin" is related to the thickening of the keratin, gentle exfoliation is necessary, but it must not be excessive.

There are many ways to exfoliate. When we take a bath, we can use shower gel containing scrub particles, rub our body vigorously with a bath sponge, bath ball, etc., which can achieve the effect of exfoliation. However, washing like this every day will make the already dry "chicken skin" unbearable, and become thinner and drier, which in turn will irritate the "chicken skin" to become worse. Our skin's keratin renewal cycle is 28-45 days, so such intense exfoliation once every 1-1.5 months is enough.

A relatively gentle way to exfoliate is to use bath salts (table salt can also exfoliate, but the sodium in it will dry out the skin. People with "chicken skin" are better off using Dead Sea bath salts which have moisturizing properties).

You can take a bath with bath salts, or you can dissolve the bath salts in hot water first, then mix it with a plant-based shower gel (shower gel with more chemical agents will react chemically with the bath salts), and use it in the shower. When taking a bath with bath salts, you can also add rose and sandalwood essential oils to exfoliate and moisturize the skin.

Many people think that taking a bath every day is a good habit, but it is not good for "chicken skin". Shower gel can also remove dead skin cells to a certain extent, but it may also remove too much oil. Therefore, people with "chicken skin" only need to take a bath once every 2 or 3 days in winter, or just take a bath with clean water every day without using shower gel. Exfoliation makes the skin on the shoulders and back smooth.
