The purpose and precautions of oxygen inhalation

Oxygen inhalation is a commonly used method to relieve fatigue. It can make a person more energetic and reduce fatigue. However, excessive oxygen inhalation will cause oxygen dependence, which will make you more likely to feel tired and detrimental to your daily life. Therefore, there needs to be a limit and it cannot be done blindly. It must be used correctly under the guidance of a doctor. So, what are the purpose and precautions of oxygen inhalation?

1. Notes

1. Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (chronic bronchitis, emphysema) should inhale low-concentration oxygen in case of respiratory failure. (<35%)

2. Medical oxygen should be used for oxygen inhalation, and industrial oxygen should not be used.

3. When the patient has nasal congestion or uses a nasal cannula to inhale oxygen, high-flow oxygen inhalation will irritate the local nasal mucosa, and the oxygen flow rate should not be greater than 7L/min. The relationship between inhaled oxygen concentration and oxygen flow rate: inhaled oxygen concentration (%) = 21 + 4 times oxygen flow rate (L/min).

2. Appropriate oxygen inhalation can significantly improve the following symptoms:

● Reduce mental overdraft

Due to studying for too long hours, lack of necessary rest and entertainment, and nervousness about exams, many students suffer from "exam syndrome", which is manifested by mental fatigue, memory loss, slow reaction, inattention, reduced learning efficiency, etc. A few minutes of oxygen every day can lead to significant improvement.

●Relieve work pressure

Under the intense work pace, it is easy to experience symptoms such as fatigue, dizziness, irritability, shortness of breath, and loss of appetite. Medical experts call this "office syndrome." Breathing oxygen for 3 to 5 minutes every day can relieve sub-health conditions such as nervous tension and irritability.

● Home treatment of diseases such as bronchial asthma, chronic tracheitis, emphysema, angina pectoris, respiratory and heart failure with oxygen inhalation can significantly increase blood oxygen saturation, relieve patients' pain, and save expensive medical expenses. Regular oxygen inhalation by middle-aged and elderly people can prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and is beneficial to health and longevity.

●Pregnant women’s health care

Regular oxygen inhalation during pregnancy can increase the oxygen content in the pregnant woman's arterial blood, which is beneficial to improving the pregnant woman's body function and promoting the growth and development of the fetus.

● Exercise oxygen supplement

Timely replenishment of oxygen after strenuous exercise can quickly improve shortness of breath and chest tightness, eliminate fatigue, and restore physical strength.
