Precautions for using fire extinguishers

Precautions for using fire extinguishers

Fire extinguishers should be available in all public places. If a fire occurs, without a fire extinguisher, the fire will spread and the possibility of extinguishing the fire manually is very small. Only through the use of fire extinguishers can the fire be better controlled, casualties can be reduced, and unnecessary property losses can be reduced. We should know how to use fire extinguishers. If we cannot use them correctly, we still cannot control the fire. So, what are the precautions for using a fire extinguisher?

1. Dry powder fire extinguisher

1. Suitable for extinguishing fires of petroleum products, paints, organic solvents, liquids, gases, and electrical appliances. However, it cannot extinguish fires involving burning light metals.

2. When using, first pull out the safety pin, which is the pull ring.

3. Press the handle two meters away from the flame to spray out dry powder.

4. When extinguishing a fire, spray close to the flame, choose a good target, and do not spray against the wind.

Maintenance of dry powder fire extinguishers: Keep them in an easily accessible, dry and ventilated place. Check the dry powder twice a year to see if it is clumping. If there is any problem, replace it in time.

2. Trolley Fire Extinguisher

1. When using a cart, first push the cart fire extinguisher quickly to the fire source.

2. Pull out the spray hose and straighten it, then remove the safety pin.

3. Open the straightening door handle, aim at the root of the flame, let the powder mist sweep across the key flame, and pay attention to cutting off the fire source.

4. Extinguish the fire from near to far.

3. Carbon dioxide fire extinguisher

1. Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are suitable for extinguishing fires in valuable instruments and equipment, archives, and computer rooms. They are non-conductive and therefore suitable for extinguishing fires in energized low-voltage electrical equipment and oils, but cannot extinguish fires of substances such as potassium, sodium, magnesium, and aluminum.

2. When using, first pull out the safety pin of the duckbill type, and then press down the handle.

3. For the handwheel type, remove the lead seal first, then rotate the handwheel counterclockwise to spray out.

4. Be careful not to touch the horn with your fingers, as there is a possibility of frostbite.

5. When extinguishing a fire, the carbon dioxide fire extinguisher should be placed close to the fire point and sprayed in the upwind direction.

Maintenance of carbon dioxide fire extinguishers: Carbon dioxide fire extinguishers should be checked regularly and inflated and replaced in time when the weight is less than 5%.

4. Foam fire extinguisher

1. Foam can cover the surface of the burning object and prevent air from entering. It is suitable for extinguishing liquid fires, but cannot extinguish fires of water-soluble combustible and flammable liquids, such as alcohols, esters, ethers, ketones and other substances and electrical fires.

2. When using, first block the nozzle with your finger and turn the cylinder upside down twice, and foam will spray out.

3. For oil fires, do not spray towards the center of the oil surface to prevent the burning oil from spilling out. Instead, spray along the edge of the fire and upward to gradually cover the oil surface.

4. When using, do not point the bottom and cover of the cylinder towards the human body to prevent danger.

Maintenance of foam fire extinguishers: Replace the agent in the cylinder every six months, or at the latest once a year, and take precautions against freezing and sun exposure in winter and summer.
