Can I eat hard food after my teeth are straightened?

Orthodontic treatment is a very painful process because during the treatment period most of the foods that you normally eat cannot be eaten. In addition, patients who undergo orthodontic treatment need to go to the hospital regularly every month to check if their braces are loose, and they also experience regular toothaches every month. However, people who have some knowledge about orthodontic treatment should know that you cannot eat hard food during the correction period. So, can you eat hard food after the correction?

1. Can I eat hard food after my teeth are straightened?

Generally, if you have just completed orthodontic treatment, the gums are not yet stable. At this time, you are still very afraid of infection, so you cannot eat hard food, and you should mainly eat soft or liquid food. Pay attention to oral hygiene. It’s best not to eat it. It’s not too late to eat it after you recover.

2. Rehabilitation and care after correcting teeth

1. Do not eat bones or hard-shell foods. During orthodontic treatment, in addition to following the doctor's instructions, you must also carefully take care of the braces on your teeth. Avoid eating large pieces of food, such as cutting apples into small pieces, to prevent the accessories of the braces from loosening due to improper diet, so that the entire correction process can be completed smoothly. Avoid eating foods with hard texture, such as bone foods, crabs, nuts, etc.

2. You can rinse your mouth with water or tea after meals. There are also a large number of microorganisms in the human oral cavity. If the teeth are not brushed well and there is food residue between the teeth, bacteria will multiply and cause tooth decay or periodontal tissue inflammation. The best way to take care of your teeth is to brush your teeth after every meal. If it is inconvenient to brush your teeth after a meal, you can rinse your mouth with water or tea.

3. Do not eat sticky foods, foods that require chewing or breaking. Meat must be cut with a knife or torn into small pieces with your hands or peeled before eating. Do not chew or tear it directly with your teeth.

4. Eat less snacks. To reduce the amount of snacks and candies, especially chewing gum, because chewing gum sticks to the braces and is difficult to remove. If a teenager needs orthodontic treatment, parents should urge their children to follow the doctor's instructions, go to the hospital for regular check-ups, replace wires, wear rubber bands, etc.

5. Keep your mouth clean. Dental braces are bonded to teeth with adhesives, and force is applied to the teeth through the correction device to correct dental deformities. Therefore, you should use an orthodontic toothbrush, move gently and slowly, and do it for 3 to 5 minutes each time. Orthodontic patients must keep their mouths clean.
