The right side of my throat hurts and my ear hurts too

If you feel a sore throat when eating or drinking, this is related to inflammation and you should pay attention to clearing heat and detoxifying. But what is the cause of the pain on the right side of my throat and in my ear? Pharyngitis can cause many complications, so inflammation of the throat may cause pain in the right ear, which is actually very common. Of course, you should also pay attention to the occurrence of otitis media. No matter where the pain is, you should receive medication and take it as recommended by your doctor.

Diseases of the ear, nose and throat are common diseases of the ENT department. The five senses are interconnected and form a whole that cannot be viewed separately. The ears, nose, and throat are all the same. There are many clinical examples to illustrate this. For example, people with pharyngitis are prone to nasopharynx because the throat is located below the nose. Pharyngitis can also cause ear diseases. Many people don’t understand why throat diseases can cause ear diseases. This has to do with the anatomy of the human body. It is common for pain in the throat when swallowing to cause ear pain on the same side. Today, let's talk about why swallowing pain on the right side of the throat can cause pain in the ear on the same side.

Steps/Methods:

1. As mentioned above, it is related to anatomy, so let’s talk about the relationship between this anatomy. From the perspective of Western medicine, there is a tube connecting the ear and throat, and that is the Eustachian tube. The Eustachian tube is the opening of the throat in the ear, which can maintain the air pressure balance between the tympanic cavity and the outside world and eliminate secretions from the middle ear.

2. Moreover, the Eustachian tubes of adults, infants and children are different. The Eustachian tubes of infants and children are short, thick and straight, so they are more likely to cause middle ear infections and develop into otitis media. Therefore, it is more common in children and infants. Colds cause sore throats, and bacteria and viruses enter the middle ear through the Eustachian tube, causing otitis media and thus ear pain.

3. If you have a sore throat after a cold and then ear pain, go to the hospital to check your ears in time to see if your ears are infected with a virus or bacteria. Especially babies and children. Of course, it can also happen to adults, but the probability of occurrence is smaller, but it still needs to be taken seriously.

Note:

For otitis media caused by pharyngitis, Western medicine uses anti-infection treatment and antibiotics to kill bacteria. But antibiotics are ineffective against viruses. So if it is a viral infection, you can seek treatment from traditional Chinese medicine.
