Can't you see the wind during confinement?

Can't you see the wind during confinement?

In the past, many women developed health problems because they did not take good care of their bodies after giving birth. Therefore, as modern living conditions are getting better and better, many people are paying more and more attention to the issue of women's confinement. I believe that people who have some understanding of confinement should know that most people think that women should not be exposed to the wind during the confinement period. But is it true that women cannot see the wind during confinement?

People have passed down from generation to generation that "you can't see the wind during the confinement period". Is this really necessary?

1. "Postpartum wind" is caused by poor medical and health conditions

Due to the poor medical and health conditions, puerperal infections were quite common in ancient times.

Postpartum infection mostly refers to tetanus infection caused by the failure to fully disinfect during delivery in the past. Severe infection can cause a high fever. A high fever can produce a feeling of coldness, manifested by shivering and muscle contractions. Ancient people believed that this feeling of cold was caused by catching a cold, such as "postpartum wind" caused by contact with cold water or being blown by cool wind.

2. Taboos of confinement due to "postpartum wind"

Because the ancients believed that the infectious disease "postpartum wind" was caused by cold, many taboos during confinement naturally emerged: no contact with water, including washing hair and taking a bath, even brushing teeth; no wind, including opening windows and using hair dryers; eat less cold food, even vegetables and fruits; eat more hot beef, mutton, brown sugar, black tea and ginger. In addition, the mother should cover herself with a thick quilt, wear a hat and wrap herself with a towel, and get out of bed less and move less.

3. Failure to open windows for ventilation is more likely to lead to postpartum wind

The reason why we cannot open windows for ventilation and are afraid of catching a cold is mainly because we are worried about the so-called "postpartum wind". The cause of "postpartum wind" is actually bacterial infection. The types and numbers of germs in the house are originally limited, but if the windows are not opened regularly for ventilation and the air is not circulating, the number of germs will multiply and increase. Because the resistance of the mother and baby is slightly weaker, the mother is more likely to be infected by bacteria, and then develop symptoms of "postpartum wind", and the baby is also more likely to be attacked by bacteria and viruses and become sick. Therefore, not opening windows for ventilation will not only fail to reduce the risk of postpartum infection, but will make "postpartum wind" more likely to occur.

Important reminder: Today’s sanitary conditions are far from what they were in ancient times! Modern people can use air conditioning and fans during confinement! Just don’t point the air outlet of the air conditioner towards people, and keep the mother and baby away from the outlet. Remember to ventilate the room, ventilate it, ventilate it!
