Why do I often have stomachache at night?

Frequent stomach pain at night is most likely due to gastroenteritis. The stomach and intestines are the main digestive and absorptive organs of the human body. If there is inflammation, it will not only lead to malnutrition of the patient, but the pain symptoms it brings will also affect the patient's mental state. Therefore, timely treatment is the most appropriate attitude when facing gastroenteritis. Below, I will introduce the treatment methods of gastroenteritis in detail.

1. Western medicine treatment of acute gastroenteritis

1. General treatment: Rest in bed as much as possible and take glucose-electrolyte solution orally to replenish fluid loss. If vomiting persists or dehydration is obvious, intravenous supplementation of 5%-10% glucose saline and other relevant electrolytes is required. Encourage a light liquid or semi-liquid diet to prevent dehydration or treat mild dehydration.

2. Symptomatic treatment: Antiemetics can be injected if necessary: for example, intramuscular injection of chlorpromazine 25-100 mg/day. Antispasmodics: such as Belladonna 8 ml/time, 3 times a day. Antidiarrheal drugs: such as Smecta, 1 bag each time, 2-3 times a day.

3. Antimicrobial treatment: The therapeutic effect of antibiotics on this disease is controversial. For infectious diarrhea, targeted antibiotics can be appropriately selected, such as berberine 0.3g orally, 3 times a day or gentamicin 80,000U orally, 3 times a day. However, the abuse of antibiotics should be prevented.

2. TCM treatment of acute gastroenteritis

1. Damp-heat in the stomach and intestines: The disease starts suddenly, with frequent nausea, vomiting and acid regurgitation, intermittent abdominal pain, urgent diarrhea, uncomfortable bowel movements, yellow-brown and smelly stools, thirst, irritability, short and red urine, yellow and greasy tongue coating, and a rapid or slippery pulse.

Treatment method: Clear away heat and dampness, regulate qi and stop diarrhea.

Prescription: 10 grams of Pueraria root, 10 grams of Scutellaria baicalensis, 6 grams of Coptis chinensis, 10 grams of Costusroot, 12 grams of Poria, 10 grams of Plantago seed, 10 grams of White Hyacinthus bean, 15 grams of Coix seed, 10 grams of lotus leaf, and 6 grams of raw licorice.

2. Cold and dampness obstruction: vomiting clear water. Nausea, watery diarrhea, abdominal pain and bowel sounds accompanied by chills and fever, pain in the neck or joints throughout the body, thin white or greasy tongue coating, and a weak pulse.

Treatment method: Dispel cold and dampness, harmonize the stomach and stop diarrhea.

Prescription: 10 grams of Patchouli, 10 grams of Citrus aurantium, 10 grams of Angelica dahurica, 10 grams of Perilla frutescens, 12 grams of Poria, 10 grams of Pinellia ternata, 10 grams of Atractylodes macrocephala, 10 grams of Tangerine peel, 10 grams of Magnolia officinalis, 5 grams of ginger, and 6 grams of Licorice.

Chinese patent medicine: Huoxiang Zhengqi Water.

3. Food stagnation in the stomach and intestines: nausea and loss of appetite, which is worse after eating, and feels better after vomiting; abdominal pain, foul-smelling diarrhea, shortness of breath and discomfort, which is relieved after diarrhea, thick and greasy tongue coating, and slippery and strong pulse.

Treatment method: Digest food, eliminate stagnation, harmonize the stomach and reduce reflux.

Prescription: 10 grams of charred hawthorn, 10 grams of Shenqu, 10 grams of processed Pinellia, 12 grams of Poria, 10 grams of dried tangerine peel, 10 grams of radish, and 10 grams of dried tangerine peel.

4. Weak spleen and stomach: insufficient constitution, spleen deficiency, vomiting and diarrhea after a little careless eating, loose stools, vomiting of clear water, and intermittent vomiting, pale complexion, fatigue, pale tongue, weak pulse.

Treatment method: Strengthen the spleen and regulate Qi, harmonize the stomach and stop diarrhea.

Prescription: 3 grams of ginseng, 12 grams of Atractylodes macrocephala, 10 grams of yam, 12 grams of Poria cocos, 12 grams of white hyacinth bean, 10 grams of tangerine peel, 3 grams of Amomum villosum, 12 grams of Coix seed, and 6 grams of licorice.

3. Treatment of chronic gastritis

1. Oral antibiotics: In chronic gastritis, especially chronic atrophic gastritis, when gastric acid is reduced or lacking, gastric function is disordered or there is retained fluid in the stomach, bacteria are easy to grow and multiply, making gastritis lesions and symptoms worse. Therefore, antibiotics such as streptomycin, gentamicin, berberine, etc. can be taken orally. Dile Granules can inhibit or kill Helicobacter pylori, so it can also be used.

2. Taking gastric mucosal protective agents: such as sucralfate, Gaweiping or aluminum hydroxide gel, can protect the gastric mucosa and enhance its resistance, but aluminum preparations should not be taken for a long time.

3. Reduce bile reflux: Metoclopramide or metoclopramide can accelerate the emptying of the stomach and duodenum, reduce bile reflux, and thus avoid the damage of bile to the gastric mucosa. However, it should be noted that metoclopramide has side effects such as drowsiness.

4. For elderly patients with chronic gastritis, especially those with atrophic gastritis, if the upper abdominal symptoms worsen or increase, they should go to the hospital in time and receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor.

5. Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine. For patients with chronic gastroenteritis, it is often recommended to combine traditional Chinese medicine treatment.
