If the perforation of the eardrum is caused by trauma and the perforation is over a large area, it cannot heal on its own and you should go to the ENT department of the local hospital for timely treatment and do an eardrum repair surgery. The surgery is done with anesthesia and should be painless. Any surgery has risks, but they do not necessarily happen. It usually takes about four weeks to recover after the surgery.
