How long is the shelf life of MSG

MSG is an essential seasoning in the kitchen, but many people don't pay much attention to it. We all know that we should not eat too much MSG, so a lot of MSG comes in small packages. If we buy a large package of MSG, it will expire and we still don’t finish it. Then you have to throw it away and can't eat it. Because the substances in MSG will change and affect your health. So, how long is the shelf life of MSG?

1. How long is the shelf life of MSG?

Chicken essence is just a type of MSG, which is developed from the main ingredient monosodium glutamate. Its freshness is more than twice that of monosodium glutamate. Because chicken essence contains umami nucleotides as flavor enhancers, it has a flavor-enhancing effect and its purity is lower than that of MSG. Chicken essence is a compound flavor enhancer and a condiment used in daily life. Since chicken essence is a compound seasoning, its relative shelf life is 1-2 years, while 95% pure MSG has a shelf life of 3 years.

2. Nutritional value of MSG

The main ingredient of MSG is monosodium glutamate, which is one of the amino acids in the oxidative metabolism of brain tissue and is very important for improving and maintaining the function of the thalamus. For a normal person, a daily sodium intake of 1-2 grams can meet physiological needs (the United Nations recommends that each person consume less than 8 grams of salt per day, and the main component of salt is sodium chloride). Overeating can cause water and sodium retention in the body, leading to narrowing of the blood vessels, increased vascular resistance, increased blood volume, increased burden on the heart and kidneys, and increased blood pressure. In addition, MSG also contains a small amount of sodium chloride.

Note:

1. Pregnant women and infants should not eat MSG because it may cause fetal defects.

2. The elderly and children should not eat too much.

3. If people with high blood pressure consume too much MSG, their blood pressure will be higher. Therefore, patients with hypertension should not only limit their salt intake, but also strictly control their intake of MSG.

3. Can MSG be used after its expiration date?

No, you cannot eat expired MSG. If you eat it, it is harmful to your body and may cause cancer.
