Six methods of acupuncture treatment for diarrhea: Although moxibustion is not as popular as acupuncture, it has the functions of warming yang and replenishing qi, warming the meridians and dredge collaterals, removing blood stasis and dispersing nodules, and replenishing the middle and invigorating qi. The effect is certain, especially for functional diseases such as diarrhea, edema, and dysmenorrhea. The effect is better. Here are some detailed acupuncture techniques for treating diarrhea.

Moxibustion for diarrhea 1

Acupoint: Special point for diarrhea (location: directly below the highest point of the lateral malleolus, at the junction of red and white flesh).

Moxibustion: Use gentle moxibustion with moxa rolls, 10 to 15 minutes each time, 2 to 3 times a day, until cured.

Moxibustion for diarrhea 2

Acupoints: Zhongwan, Shenque, Tianshu and Zusanli.

Acupoint combination: For chronic diarrhea, add spleen, stomach and large intestine points; for diarrhea at early morning, add Guanyuan, Qihai and Mingmen points.

Moxibustion method: Use gentle moxibustion with moxa sticks, moxibustion each acupoint for 5 minutes; you can also use moxa cones, moxibustion each acupoint 3 to 5 times.

Moxibustion for diarrhea 3

Acupoints: Tianshu, Zhongwan, Qihai and Shangjuxu points.

Combined acupoints: For those with severe cold, add Shenque and Guanyuan points; for those with severe dampness, add Yinlingquan point; for those with nausea and vomiting, add Neiguan point; for those with severe tenesmus, add Zhongluyu point.

Moxibustion method: Shenque point is treated with salt moxibustion or ginger moxibustion, 5 to 8 times each time. Other acupoints are treated with gentle moxibustion with moxa sticks, 5 minutes each time, once a day. This method is mostly used for cold and dampness type diarrhea.

Moxibustion for diarrhea 4

Acupoints: Zusanli, Yinbai, Tianshu, Zhongwan and Shenque.

Moxibustion method: Shenque point is treated with salt-separated moxibustion, 5 to 7 times each time; other acupoints are treated with scar-free direct moxibustion with moxa cones. First, apply a small amount of vaseline ointment on the acupoint, then place a moxa cone the size of a grain of wheat, light it and apply moxibustion. When the patient feels the heat and pain is unbearable, replace the moxa cone. Moxibustion each acupoint 5 to 7 times, once a day, and 10 times as a course of treatment.

Moxibustion for diarrhea 5

Acupoint: Shenmai point.

Moxibustion: Use moxa stick pecking moxibustion. The patient takes a sitting or supine position. Light the moxa stick and apply pecking moxibustion on the acupoints to make the local area feel warm but without burning pain. Each time is 10 minutes, once a day.

Moxibustion for diarrhea 6

Acupoints: Tianshu, Zhongwan, Zusanli and Yanglingquan.

Combined acupoints: For those with tenesmus, add Juxu and Xiajuxu acupoints; for those with food stagnation, add Liangmen acupoint; for those with epigastric distension, add Neiguan acupoint; for those with fever, add Dazhui acupoint.

Moxibustion: Use lamp moxibustion, moxibustion each acupoint once, once a day, 3 to 5 days as a course of treatment. This method is used for acute diarrhea.
