What is the glycemic index of fruit?

Fruit is an indispensable food in people's daily life. Many people like to eat fruit very much in daily life, not only because fruit tastes great, but also because fruit contains rich vitamins and other trace elements that are good for the human body. However, fruits are not suitable for everyone. Diabetic patients need to understand the glycemic index of fruits and then consider whether to eat them. Here is what the glycemic index of fruits is.

1. The glycemic index (GI) reflects the speed and ability of food to increase blood sugar compared to glucose. Generally speaking, low GI foods cause small changes in blood sugar, while high GI foods cause large increases in blood sugar. Generally speaking, foods with a GI of >70 are high GI foods, foods with a GI of 55-70 are medium GI foods, and foods with a GI of <55 are low GI foods.

2. The glycemic index is not perfect. It only reflects the rate and ability of the carbohydrates contained in the food to be converted into glucose. The GI is powerless when you eat more or less food. This is where the glycemic load (GL) comes in handy. This indicator can reflect the impact of eating different amounts of the food on blood sugar. GL is the GI of the food multiplied by the actual amount of carbohydrates consumed.

GL<10 is low GL food, GL between 11-19 is medium GL food, and GL>20 is high GL food. When GL<10, diabetic patients can safely consume the food and the corresponding amount of food.

3. The GL in the data listed in this article are calculated based on the edible part of 100 grams of food (the inedible part has been removed). For those with a GL below 10, diabetic patients can safely eat 100 grams, or increase the amount appropriately, so that the GL is below 10. For those with a GL above 10, diabetic patients need to reduce the amount, so that the GL of the food is below 10.
