What causes cervical calcification

What causes cervical calcification

Cervical calcification is closely related to aging. As people age, their cervical vertebrae will degenerate and their functions will decline. Long-term improper posture and wear and tear will affect the surrounding tissues of the cervical spine, such as muscles and ligaments, restricting their movements and even causing calcification. So is cervical calcification serious? Is there any way to improve it?

Calcification of the nuchal ligament generally does not cause serious symptoms, but in a sense, it indicates that the remaining ligaments of the cervical spine may also have varying degrees of hardening or calcification. Once this change occurs in the yellow ligament and the posterior longitudinal ligament, the calcification of these ligaments can easily cause stimulation and compression of the spinal cord and produce more serious consequences! There is currently no effective treatment for cervical calcification. Hot compresses, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture and other treatments can be used. In addition, avoid strenuous exercise in the neck to prevent the calcified ligaments from breaking and damaging the surrounding blood vessels and nerves!

Cervical vertebra calcification should refer to the intervertebral disc between vertebrae. Calcification, the vertebrae themselves are bones, which means they are made of calcium. Cervical ligament calcification refers to the calcification of the ligaments around the cervical vertebrae. The occurrence of these two conditions indicates that the disease has lasted for a long time and the soft tissue has become brittle, which is very dangerous. In mild cases, the surrounding blood vessels will harden, causing insufficient blood supply to the brain, dizziness and nausea. In severe cases, they will rupture and be life-threatening. Cervical calcification is a degenerative disease of the cervical spine. Due to the local hardening and calcification of the nuchal ligament, it can directly brake the cervical spine, thereby increasing the stability of the cervical spine and slowing down the further development of cervical spondylosis. Therefore, this change can be considered as a product of the human body's natural and instinctive defense mechanism.

Calcification of the nuchal ligament does not cause serious symptoms, but it often indicates that there is a lesion in the vertebrae corresponding to the calcification of the nuchal ligament, which is more obvious on X-rays. In addition, calcification of the nuchal ligament in a sense indicates that the other ligaments of the cervical spine may also have varying degrees of hardening or calcification. Once such changes occur in the yellow ligament and posterior longitudinal ligament, their hyperplasia and calcification can easily cause stimulation and compression of the spinal cord and produce more serious consequences.
