What to do if you have a toothache

If you feel toothache, it will be very uncomfortable, especially at night when the pain will become more severe. At this time, you need to quickly relieve the toothache. For example, you can gargle with salt water, which can temporarily relieve the toothache. You must not use painkillers unless it is absolutely necessary.

1. Rubbing the Hegu point (near the base of the hand) with water or massaging and pressing it with your fingers can relieve pain.

2. If your teeth hurt when exposed to heat, it is mostly caused by pus accumulation. You can use an ice pack to cool your cheeks to relieve the pain.

3. Use a piece of Sichuan pepper and hold it on the decayed tooth to relieve the pain.

4. Rinsing your mouth several times with salt water or wine can also relieve or stop toothache.

5. Crush a lilac flower with your teeth and fill the gaps in the decayed teeth. The toothache will disappear in a few hours and will last for a long time (lilac flowers can be purchased at Chinese medicine stores).

Note:

1. For stubborn toothache, it is best to take painkillers sublingually to temporarily relieve the pain.

2. To prevent dental diseases, you should also use the horizontal and vertical brushing method. When brushing your teeth, the direction of movement should be consistent with the direction of the gaps between the teeth. This can achieve the purpose of massaging the gums, improve blood circulation in the surrounding tissues, and reduce the pain caused by dental diseases.

3. The key to preventing toothache is to maintain oral hygiene. It is important to brush your teeth every morning and evening. Rinsing your mouth after meals is also a good idea.

4. Pain relief does not mean treatment. Pay attention to oral and dental hygiene to prevent toothache. When a toothache occurs and the above methods cannot relieve the pain, you should go to the hospital for emergency treatment as soon as possible.

When tooth decay begins:

Early stage tooth decay occurs in the enamel of the tooth, which is painless and the tooth surface is usually intact, with no cavities visible to the naked eye. Tooth decay on adjacent surfaces of teeth is more difficult to detect. Sometimes an X-ray is needed to confirm.

Treatment:

Dentists can apply high concentrations of fluoride to areas with early-stage tooth decay to restore the decayed areas.

Cavities spread to the dentin:

Cavities appear in the teeth and you experience tooth pain when eating.

Treatment:

When the decayed area is small and the tooth is still strong, a filling is performed. If the decayed area becomes extensive and the tooth is very fragile, an artificial crown is placed.

Tooth decay spreads to the pulp:

There are obvious cavities in the teeth, causing severe pain. The dental pulp may be infected by bacteria and become necrotic. Bacteria may even spread from the dental pulp through the tooth root to the nearby periodontal tissues, causing inflammation or abscesses.
