Why does my tooth hurt when I brush my teeth?

If your teeth are healthy, you will basically not experience pain or other discomfort when brushing your teeth. Of course, if there is a problem with your teeth, that is a different matter. If you feel toothache when brushing your teeth, it is most likely caused by oral diseases such as caries, periodontitis, pulpitis, or pericoronitis of wisdom teeth. Below, we will introduce these diseases in detail.

1. Tooth decay

There are usually no obvious symptoms when caries first appear. When the caries hole becomes larger and deeper, pain may occur when eating sweets or overly cold or overheated foods, but the pain will disappear immediately after these external stimuli are removed. When this happens, you should see a doctor promptly to fill the cavity to prevent further development of caries and cause pulpitis.

2. Periodontitis

It is mostly caused by plaque, tartar, food impaction, etc., inflammation and swelling of the gums, loose teeth caused by periodontitis, red, swollen and bleeding gums, bad breath, gum atrophy, soreness and pain when eating sour, sweet, cold or hot foods, etc. You can use the Chinese medicine Yaxuansan for treatment, which has significant effect.

If periodontitis is severe, it requires subgingival scaling to remove plaque and tartar, use of antibacterial drugs to control inflammation, and bite adjustment.

3. Pulpitis

Most of the time, it is due to pulp infection caused by untimely treatment of deep caries. The pain is severe, spontaneous, radiating, and paroxysmal, and may be caused by cold or heat stimulation and night pain. Most patients cannot accurately locate the affected tooth. The method to cure this type of toothache is to perform endodontic treatment under local anesthesia.

4. Pericoronitis of wisdom teeth

Due to the difficulty in the eruption of wisdom teeth (or impaction) and poor oral hygiene, the tissues around the crown of the tooth become inflamed, swollen and painful. Patients should pay attention to maintaining oral hygiene and can take anti-inflammatory or analgesic drugs to relieve pain first. If the symptoms do not improve, you should seek medical attention promptly to prevent the spread of inflammation and cause facial swelling or difficulty opening the mouth. The affected tooth should be extracted as soon as possible after the inflammation is eliminated.

Toothache is really terrible. This saying has been very vivid from ancient times to the present, and it can still accurately illustrate the impact of toothache on the life of dental patients. Aikangjian dental experts point out that different toothaches require different methods.
