I wake up with swollen eyes every day

Why do I wake up with swollen eyes every day?

Many people have swollen eyes when they wake up in the morning. Generally, there are many reasons for this phenomenon. If you drink a lot of water before going to bed, your eyes will be swollen. Generally, this is a normal phenomenon and you don’t need to worry too much. If the swollen eyes are caused by a disease, you must go to the hospital for relevant examinations in time. After the diagnosis, actively cooperate with the doctor for treatment.

Why do eyes or eyelids swell for a long time?

1. Allergic conjunctivitis, some people have seasonal allergies, while others have perennial allergies. In addition to eye edema, there may also be varying degrees of itching, conjunctival congestion, photosensitivity, and secretions, often accompanied by rhinitis. Swollen eyes caused by allergies are relatively easy to treat.

2. Conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is an infection that is common during cold and flu season and is usually caused by viruses, bacteria, allergens or other irritants.

3. Stye, an infection of the eyelashes or tear glands, a red lump appears on the edge of the eyelid.

4. Meibomian cyst. Similar to a stye, a meibomian cyst is a harmless, small bump that appears on the eyelid. It can be caused by blocked oil and sebaceous glands.

5. Orbital cellulitis, an inflammation that spreads from the sinuses, is more common in children than in adults. It causes redness, pain, and swelling on our eyelids and the skin around our eyes.

6. Eye injuries. When the eye is hit by blunt force, the eye compresses and retracts, causing blood to accumulate under the damaged area. The eye will swell and sometimes appear bluish-purple or black-red.

7. Graves' disease, also known as diffuse goiter with hyperthyroidism, is an autoimmune disease that can cause inflammation of the eyes.

8. Eye cancer. Eye cancer is not common, but swollen eyes are indeed a symptom of eye cancer. Eye cancer or ocular lymphoma may also be accompanied by blurred vision or vision loss. People with eye cancer may see floaters, such as spots or wavy lines that move slowly in front of their eyes.

What should you do first if your eyes are swollen?

There are some simple ways to help reduce swelling:

1. Wash or rinse. Especially when the swelling is accompanied by discharge, you can rinse your eyes with water, and cool water can relieve the symptoms.

2. Try cold compresses. Lie down and cover your eyes with a washcloth soaked in cool water.

3. People with allergies can use eye drops. You can prepare a small bottle of anti-allergic antihistamine eye drops at home and use it promptly if eye swelling caused by allergies occurs. Although steroid eye drops also have good anti-allergic effects, they must be used in accordance with doctor's orders. Blind use may damage the eyes.

4. Remove contact lenses. If you wear contact lenses, you need to remove them if your eyes or eyelids are swollen.
