The symptoms of lymphoma vary depending on the type

There are many types of lymphoma, and the symptoms of different types of lymphoma are also different. Because the symptoms of lymphoma depend on the type, let the experts explain in detail the symptoms of lymphoma. I hope that reading this article will be helpful to you.

Elderly patients with lymphoma are also common in clinical practice, and the incidence of the disease gradually increases with age. There is no significant difference in the morphological diagnosis and clinical manifestations of lymphoma between the elderly and the young. However, among the lymphoma subtypes classified by the WHO, the median age of onset of about half of the subtypes is over 50 years old, and B-cell-derived lymphoma is the most common.

1. Indolent lymphoma

Symptoms of indolent lymphoma account for a higher proportion in elderly patients, and are generally characterized by a long course of disease, easy relapse, and difficulty in treatment after progression. Existing treatments have not significantly improved the long-term survival of these patients. Therefore, the main purpose of treatment is to control tumor development, improve quality of life, and prolong tumor progression time.

Studies have shown that when rituximab is used in combination with chemotherapy, it can significantly improve the efficacy and complete remission (CR) rate, and significantly prolong event-free survival without increasing the side effects of chemotherapy. Multiple research groups have further explored the possibility and efficacy of rituximab as a symptom maintenance treatment for indolent lymphoma. The results showed that maintenance therapy with rituximab can further prolong the patient's event-free survival.

This shows that the treatment strategy for patients with indolent lymphoma has changed, which has greatly increased the chances of patients receiving treatment. Rituximab does not increase the risks of treatment, so it is more suitable as a treatment option for elderly patients.

2. Aggressive lymphoma

What are the symptoms of lymphoma? Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a representative type of aggressive lymphoma. Age is an important indicator for prognostic analysis, so many large-scale clinical studies internationally treat elderly patients as an independent group, making the data and results of elderly DLBCL patients richer and more convincing. Researchers have designed some low-toxic or mild regimens to compare with the standard CHOP regimen (cyclophosphamide + doxorubicin + vincristine + prednisone) in order to find a chemotherapy regimen suitable for elderly patients.

How to treat after the symptoms of lymphoma are found? The subjects of the NHL-B2 study were 61-75 years old patients with newly diagnosed DLBCL. The results showed that the CHOP biweekly regimen and the CHOEP (CHOP+VP-16) biweekly regimen both improved the CR rate and overall survival (OS) rate compared with the standard CHOP 3-week regimen. However, the CHOEP biweekly regimen has obvious toxic side effects and a high treatment-related mortality rate. The CHOP biweekly regimen did not significantly increase the toxic side effects compared with the standard CHOP 3-week regimen. Therefore, the research group recommends that the CHOP biweekly regimen can be considered for elderly patients with DLBCL.

A large randomized controlled study compared the efficacy of the R-CHOP regimen (rituximab + CHOP) and the CHOP regimen in patients aged 60 to 80 years who were initially treated for DLBCL. The results showed that at a median follow-up of 2 years, the R-CHOP group was significantly better than the CHOP group in terms of both efficacy and survival rate, and there was no significant increase in treatment-related side effects. Therefore, the R-CHOP regimen has become the standard treatment for these patients.

The above is the explanation given by experts on the symptoms of lymphoma, and I hope it can help you answer your questions. Experts remind that if you cannot distinguish the type of disease, the best way is to go to the hospital for examination. Do not take medicine at random according to your own will, which will worsen the condition or cause other diseases.
