How to keep shrimp freshest

How to keep shrimp freshest

Shrimp is a delicious food with very high nutritional value, so eating more shrimp will always be of great help to human health. However, choosing shrimps is not only a big problem, but also how to preserve the shrimps if you buy too many when you bring them home has become a problem that troubles many people. Because shrimp is different from other foods, if shrimp is not fresh, it is easy to cause food poisoning if eaten, so what is the method of preserving shrimp?

Bottle preservation method

Put the fresh shrimps one by one into an empty beverage bottle, fill it with water, tighten the bottle cap, and freeze it in the refrigerator. This way the shrimps are completely isolated from the air and will not have any odors. Before eating, take out a bottle and thaw it in advance, then use a knife or scissors to break open the bottle. One bottle is just enough to make one dish. This method is simple, convenient, clean, neat, and most importantly, it keeps freshness from drying out and does not transfer flavors. Because the shrimps are isolated from the air, the shrimp meat is as fresh as new ones and will not become dry and woody.

Freezing in fresh-keeping bags

Buy a thick plastic bag first. Cut off the whiskers and spines on the newly bought shrimps to prevent them from piercing the bag and losing their freshness. Straighten them out and put them into the fresh-keeping bag. After the bag is full, put 3 more similar plastic bags on the outside of the bag, seal it with transparent tape, and put it directly into the refrigerator. Then set the refrigerator to the highest setting for 8 to 10 hours, which will keep the food both frozen and fresh. When you want to eat, take out a bag and soak it in water.

The disadvantage of this method is that the plastic bag is easy to break. Once the plastic bag is broken, the shrimp will no longer be fresh, will become dry, and will easily have flavors that are mixed with other foods. Over time, the taste will also become soggy.

Fresh-keeping box freezing method

After cutting off the shrimp whiskers and shrimp claws, place them neatly in a safety box. No need to add water. Cover the box lid, making sure there are no gaps, and put it directly into the refrigerator for quick freezing. When eating, just use a large fruit knife to pry it out gently and it will all come out intact. The texture of these shrimps is the same as that of freshly bought live shrimps, and they can be preserved until next year when fresh shrimps are available.

The disadvantage of this method is that the size of the fresh-keeping box may not be appropriate. Sometimes there are more shrimps and the box is small; sometimes the box is large and has fewer shrimps. It needs to be thawed completely before eating, and if it cannot be finished in one go, it needs to be refrozen. Moreover, after being frozen again, the freshness and taste will be much worse, and the more times it is frozen, the worse it will be.

Summary: The above three methods are all suitable for long-term preservation, which can last up to one year, and the taste and freshness are almost the same as fresh shrimp. The following method of preserving fresh shrimp is also simple and easy, but the storage time should not be too long, generally about seven days. And the taste and freshness are much worse.

Boil-freeze method

Fresh shrimps can be boiled in water first, then scooped out, drained, put in a plastic bag, and frozen in the refrigerator.

Note:

When taking frozen fresh shrimp, you must be careful to take only as much as you eat. Otherwise, if you thaw and then freeze the shrimp meat, it will become powdery and inelastic, and the shrimp skin will turn black. After taking it out, use tap water to thaw it quickly. Then after controlling the water, you can boil it in water or stew it in oil as you like.
