Amputation is not necessary to treat bone cancer

Amputation is not necessary to treat bone cancer

Bone cancer is also a relatively common malignant tumor disease, which is mostly caused by the metastasis of other cancers. There is no good way to treat bone cancer. The treatment of severe bone cancer usually involves extreme measures such as amputation.

At present, there is a major misunderstanding in the treatment of bone cancer. When patients learn that they have malignant bone tumors or bone metastasis of tumors, they think that they have been sentenced to death and that amputation is inevitable. Some patients would rather believe in "secret recipes handed down from their ancestors". As a result, the result of oral and topical treatments is that the tumor grows rapidly, which costs a lot of money and delays the treatment of bone cancer, losing precious time to preserve limbs and save lives.

In fact, currently around the world, basic research, drug treatment and limb-salvage surgical treatment of bone cancer are among the fastest-growing areas in orthopedics. The development of fixation materials and functional reconstruction technology has prolonged the survival of patients and greatly improved their quality of life.

Currently available treatments for bone cancer include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, radiofrequency therapy, biological therapy, immunotherapy, limb-sparing surgery, spinal function reconstruction, allogeneic bone transplantation, etc., which can relieve pain, maintain function, and enable patients to have a better quality of life.

The treatment of bone cancer varies greatly according to the age of the patient. For infants and the elderly, the treatment of bone cancer can be said to be completely different. In any case, if bone cancer can be detected early and treated accordingly, the cure rate of patients can be greatly improved.
