Is kitchen fumes the culprit for lung cancer in women?

It is generally believed that women are much less likely to develop lung cancer than men. In fact, this is mainly because fewer women smoke than men. In recent years, clinical statistics have found that women who have never smoked have twice the risk of developing lung cancer as men.

Why are women more susceptible to lung cancer? In fact, there is a clear relationship between high-temperature kitchen fumes and the occurrence of lung cancer in women. People who often cook in the kitchen have a lung cancer mortality rate that is nearly twice as high as those who do not often cook, and their probability of developing lung cancer is higher than that of smokers who do not often cook in the kitchen. More than half of the reasons are caused by cooking methods and eating habits. It can be said that kitchen fumes have become an invisible killer that threatens human health.

The hazards of kitchen fumes mainly include the following aspects:

1. Oil fume syndrome

Kitchen fumes can enter the human respiratory tract through air, causing loss of appetite, irritability, lack of energy, drowsiness, and fatigue.

Symptoms such as weakness are medically known as oil fume syndrome.

2. Oil smoke directly stimulates the sensory organs

Studies have shown that when cooking oil is burned to 150°C, the glycerin in it will produce acrolein, the main component of oil smoke. It has a strong pungent taste and is very irritating to the nose, eyes, and throat mucosa, and can cause respiratory diseases such as rhinitis, pharyngitis, and tracheitis.
