Can I resume my sexual life three months after cervical cancer surgery?

It has been three months since I had part of my cervix removed after cervical cancer surgery, but I don’t know if I can have sex. If I do, what should I pay attention to?

According to statistics, very few people experience sexual dysfunction after cervical cancer treatment. Most of the cases are caused by psychological factors or lack of understanding of the changes in the body caused by treatment.

Cervical cancer surgery changes the anatomical structure of the reproductive organs, and local radiotherapy after surgery can cause the patient to lose ovarian function. However, from a purely physiological point of view, sexual desire will not be significantly affected after cervical cancer treatment, because the hormone most directly related to sexual desire is not estrogen, but testosterone. Under normal circumstances, in addition to the ovaries in the female body, the adrenal cortex also secretes a small amount of testosterone. Patients who undergo radiotherapy lose ovarian function, but like menopausal women, at this time, the function of the adrenal cortex to secrete testosterone will reach a new dominant position. Therefore, the sexual desire of cervical cancer patients who undergo timely radiotherapy after surgery will not be significantly affected.

It can be seen that cervical cancer patients do not need to be afraid of or lose confidence in their sex life after treatment. Three months after the end of treatment, as long as the physical strength returns to normal and the doctor's examination confirms that the cancer has been completely controlled, normal sex life can be gradually resumed. In the early stage of resuming sex life, some patients are prone to pain, or due to the decrease in the resistance of the vaginal epithelium, they are prone to damage and infection, increased vaginal secretions, vaginal bleeding, etc. In case of these situations, you should seek medical treatment in time to get treatment and guidance, and rule out cancer recurrence. In addition, both the husband and wife of the patient after treatment should pay attention to maintaining sexual hygiene and regular and restrained sex life.
