A comprehensive review of prostate cancer risk factors

Although the exact cause of prostate cancer has not yet been clarified, the risk factors currently summarized to be related to the occurrence of prostate cancer include age, family history, pathological changes, changes in dietary structure, race, androgen levels, and psychological factors.

Age: Age is the most important risk factor for prostate cancer. Generally, the incidence of prostate cancer increases sharply with age. Most prostate cancer patients are over 65 years old.

Family history: Studies have found that prostate cancer is familial, and those who have relatives with prostate cancer have a higher incidence rate than normal people.

Pathological changes: Abnormal cell pathological changes in the prostate are an important cause of prostate cancer. The incidence of prostate cancer is significantly increased in men with high-grade prostate intraepithelial neoplasia.

Changes in dietary structure: High-animal fat foods contain more unsaturated fatty acids. People who often consume such foods are prone to prostate cancer.

Race: The incidence of prostate cancer is highest among black Americans, followed by Hispanics and white Americans. Although the incidence among Chinese is not as high as those countries, it is currently showing an increasing trend year by year.

Androgen levels: Androgens can promote the growth of prostate cancer. Men with high androgen levels in their bodies are more likely to develop prostate cancer.

Psychological factors: Negative psychological factors can induce prostate cancer. People who experience major life changes such as divorce or widowhood are prone to prostate cancer.
