Distribution of gastric cancer incidence in my country

Gastric cancer originates from the mucosal epithelial cells on the surface of the stomach wall and can occur in various parts of the stomach, with the most cases in the pyloric antrum and the fundus. It can invade the stomach wall at different depths and widths.

my country is one of the countries with the highest incidence and mortality of gastric cancer, both of which are twice the world average. Among the top ten cancers in my country, gastric cancer ranks second and third in mortality; the ratio of male to female incidence and mortality of gastric cancer is 2:1; the incidence of gastric cancer in rural areas is 1.6 times that in urban areas, and the mortality rate of gastric cancer in rural areas is 1.9 times that in urban areas; the mortality/incidence ratio of gastric cancer ranks eighth. The incidence of gastric cancer increases significantly with age, with the peak age of onset being between 50 and 80 years old, and it is becoming younger year by year.

The incidence of gastric cancer in my country is related to dietary habits. For example, the incidence is high in Shandong, Liaoning, Fujian, Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Jilin, Jiangsu, and Shanghai. It is also related to geological water quality, such as the Hexi Corridor of the Qilian Mountain inland river system, the upper reaches of the Yellow River, the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the mouth of the Minjiang River, the lower reaches of the Mulan River, and the southern section of the Taihang Mountains.

The efficacy of gastric cancer treatment is closely related to the early stage of the disease and the diagnosis and treatment methods. More than 90% of patients with early gastric cancer can survive for more than 5 years or be cured after timely treatment, while the 5-year survival rate of patients with very advanced gastric cancer after treatment is less than 5%. Therefore, early detection is the key to improving efficacy and survival rate.
