Laryngeal cancer patients need to choose comprehensive treatment according to their condition

Laryngeal cancer can be treated with several methods, including surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and biological therapy. Each treatment has its advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, laryngeal cancer patients should choose a comprehensive treatment method based on their specific condition.

Early stage poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma

This type of patient can be treated with radiotherapy alone. Induction chemotherapy is performed before radiotherapy to enhance the sensitivity of cancer cells to radiotherapy, thereby enhancing the efficacy of radiotherapy. In addition, this treatment method can preserve the function of the larynx.

Early well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma

This type of patient can undergo laser surgery or conventional surgery, and the patient can basically retain all or part of the laryngeal function. After the surgery, the need for radiotherapy is determined based on the patient's pathological condition, but most patients do not need it.

Larger, mid-stage laryngeal cancer

This type of patient is most suitable for surgical treatment. If cervical lymph node metastasis has occurred before surgery, cervical lymph node dissection is required during surgery. If no cervical lymph node metastasis is found during preoperative examination or only early metastasis is found, postoperative prevention can be performed according to the specific condition.

Radical radiotherapy. If enlarged cervical lymph nodes are found after surgery, radical radiotherapy of the cervical lymph nodes is required.

Advanced laryngeal cancer with large size

For patients with advanced laryngeal cancer or tumors with distant metastasis, no treatment method is satisfactory. If surgery is still possible, surgery is the main treatment. If the patient is in poor physical condition and is estimated to be unable to tolerate surgery, or the tumor is too large to be repaired after resection, palliative radiotherapy or chemotherapy can be used. The purpose of treatment at this stage is mainly to relieve the patient's pain, not to prolong the patient's life.
