How to treat laryngeal cancer

Currently, the treatment of laryngeal cancer includes surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and biological therapy, etc. Sometimes multiple treatment methods are combined to improve the 5-year survival rate of laryngeal cancer, maximize the retention of the patient's laryngeal vocal function, and improve the patient's quality of life.

(1) Radiotherapy: It is mainly used to treat early-stage laryngeal cancer (i.e., stage 1 lesions). It has good efficacy and can basically preserve normal language function. For the treatment of early-stage glottic laryngeal cancer, the efficacy of radiotherapy alone for T1 lesions can reach about 90%, and for T2 lesions it can reach about 80%. The Bethesda Memorial Hospital in the United States used 6MVX-ray to treat vocal cord carcinoma in situ and T1 glottic laryngeal cancer. The local control rate of vocal cord carcinoma in situ was 100%; the efficacy of glottic laryngeal cancer was 98%-100%.

(2) Surgical treatment: It has a good radical cure effect on stage 1 or stage Ⅱ laryngeal cancer. For patients with lesions above stage Ⅱ, surgical treatment is the first choice. For patients in the advanced stage, that is, the tumor has invaded the laryngeal body, or large laryngeal tumors without extra-laryngeal invasion, total laryngectomy should be performed. After surgery, artificial larynx, electronic larynx, tracheoesophageal fistula and other methods should be used to reconstruct pronunciation.

(3) Treatment with traditional Chinese medicine: The treatment principle is to nourish yin and kidney, invigorate qi and clear lung, and detoxify and disperse nodules. Commonly used traditional Chinese medicines include scutellaria baicalensis, isatis root, raw rehmannia, Yuanshen, platycodon, big shell, Sophora flavescens, raw gardenia, golden fruit olive, oroxylum, Anemarrhena, Phellodendron, etc. External use medicines include Zixuesan, Zhuhuangxiaogansan, Zhenzhusan, Liushenwan, etc.
