What is cervical spondylosis

Cervical spondylosis is a series of symptoms caused by cervical degeneration, including occipital neck pain, limited neck movement, stiff neck muscles, soreness, pain, swelling and discomfort in the neck. Since the symptoms and signs are limited to the neck, cervical spondylosis is also called localized cervical spondylosis.

Most of the patients are young and middle-aged, while female patients often complain of discomfort in the scapula and shoulders. Patients often complain that they do not know what position to put their head and neck in for comfort. Some patients have limited neck movement, and a few patients may have transient upper limb numbness, but no muscle weakness or walking difficulties. People with cervical spinal stenosis may develop the disease around the age of 45, and some patients have neck trauma. Almost all patients have been working with their heads down for a long time. Clinical examinations have found that the patient's neck is generally not crooked, the physiological curvature is weakened or disappeared, and the neck is often pinched with the hands. There may be tenderness between and beside the spinous processes. X-rays show that the physiological curvature of the cervical spine has become straight or disappeared, and the cervical vertebral body has mild degeneration. Lateral flexion and extension dynamic radiographs can find that the intervertebral space is loose in about 1/3 of the cases, which manifests as mild trapezoidal changes or increased flexion and extension range of motion.
