What do you need to do for early detection of colorectal cancer

If you go to the hospital for early detection of colorectal cancer, what tests should be done? Let's listen to the experts and tell us that the first thing to do should be a pathological examination, which is the main basis for the diagnosis of rectal cancer. Since rectal cancer surgery often involves diversion issues that affect the patient's quality of life, in order to avoid misdiagnosis and mistreatment, the results of pathological examinations must be obtained before or during surgery to guide treatment. Never remove the anus lightly.

Other tests include carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) testing, which has been widely performed and is one of the most important tests for colorectal cancer. It is generally considered to be valuable in evaluating treatment effects and prognosis.

B-ultrasound examination: for cases with rectal tumors, further intrarectal B-ultrasound examination can be performed. This is a non-invasive examination developed in recent years. Its advantage is that it can determine the depth and range of rectal cancer invasion, and it is also valuable for determining whether there is lymph node metastasis. Liver B-ultrasound is particularly important to prevent missed diagnosis of rectal cancer liver metastasis.

Sigmoidoscopy can be used as a reference for patients who cannot feel a mass during rectal digital examination but have suspicious clinical symptoms or cannot rule out a tumor. For rectal cancer, the gross morphology of the lesion can be directly seen under the sigmoidoscopy, and a living tissue specimen can be obtained.

CT scans are less accurate than intracavitary ultrasound in determining the depth of infiltration into the intestinal wall, but have a higher diagnostic accuracy for moderate to extensive extraintestinal spread. CT scans are important for monitoring postoperative recurrence of rectal cancer.
