Is it normal to feel sore after a tooth filling?

Patients will experience toothache after a filling. This is a normal reaction because during the treatment process, the damage needs to be removed from the teeth, and then the teeth need to be filled again. Pain will occur after the removal and filling. Therefore, after having a tooth filled, you must not eat irritating foods, such as foods that are too hot, too cold, too sour, etc. This article adds a few points to note after tooth filling, which must be strictly followed. Let’s take a look.

During the tooth filling process, it is necessary to remove the tooth tissue that has already been decayed. When these tissues are removed, there will be obvious soreness and pain. This is very normal. Try not to eat hard, hot, cold or sour food in the near future. Generally speaking, you will be able to recover slowly.

There are several things to keep in mind after filling a tooth:

1. Do not brush your teeth on the day after resin filling to prevent the filling material from falling off due to contact.

2. The appearance of the tooth can be restored after filling, but the chewing function of the tooth will be damaged to a certain extent. Therefore, it is not advisable to chew hard food after filling, and you should not chew on the filled side in the early stage after filling.

3. It takes a certain amount of time for the filling material to solidify, so you should avoid eating within 2 hours after the filling. 2 hours after the filling, you can eat some light, mild liquid and semi-liquid food; such as milk, bread, porridge and soup.

4. The chewing function of the tooth after filling is worse than that of the real tooth. Therefore, you should pay attention to the protection of the oral cavity after filling and never bite hard food.

5. If the caries cavity is large, after resin filling, the tooth body is often easily fractured during chewing due to insufficient resistance of the tooth body after restoration. Therefore, after this type of tooth is filled with resin, a shell crown should be placed in time to protect the affected tooth according to the doctor's advice.

6. Although tooth decay can be controlled after filling, it can still occur if you do not pay attention to oral hygiene. Therefore, oral hygiene care is extremely important. In daily life, you should pay attention to brushing your teeth in the morning and evening, rinsing your mouth after meals, maintaining good oral hygiene, and conducting regular oral examinations.

7. It is normal to experience slight pain and discomfort, and it will take some time for you to get used to it. However, if the pain does not subside after the filling but worsens, you should ask the attending physician to make further adjustments and repairs in time.
