Is there any bladder cancer that will not recur?

Is there any bladder cancer that does not recur? The recurrence rate of bladder cancer is very high. If it is a single small tumor that is not located in the bladder base or around the bladder neck, transurethral resection can be performed according to the situation, but it requires postoperative drug instillation and close follow-up. If there is recurrence, or multiple large tumors with a wide base located in the bladder base or around the bladder neck, it is best to use radical cystectomy and replace it with ileal in situ bladder depending on the situation.

Is there any case of bladder cancer that will not recur?

First of all, there are many pathological types of bladder cancer. The most common type is "urothelial carcinoma", also called "transitional cell carcinoma". When we usually discuss bladder cancer, we mainly refer to this type.

The staging of bladder cancer mainly depends on the depth of invasion and the presence or absence of metastasis. Like most cancers, it is divided into stages 0, I, II, III, and IV according to the TNM staging system. However, clinically, bladder cancer that has not metastasized and has not invaded the organs around the bladder is usually divided into "non-muscle invasive stage" and "muscle invasive stage". The treatment methods for these two situations are completely different.

The overall prognosis of bladder urothelial cancer is better than most cancers, but it is prone to recurrence. The chance of recurrence is related to the grade and stage of the tumor. However, as long as the correct surgical method is taken according to the stage, the chance of recurrence is more closely related to the grade.

The classification of bladder urothelial cancer includes: "urothelial papilloma with low malignant potential", "low-grade urothelial cancer" and "high-grade urothelial cancer". According to most literature reports, the recurrence rate of urothelial papilloma with low malignant potential within five years is less than 20%, the recurrence rate of low-grade urothelial cancer within five years is 30% to 50%, and the recurrence rate of high-grade urothelial cancer within five years is more than 70%.

How long does it take for bladder cancer to be cured without recurrence?

Bladder cancer has a chance of recurrence within 5 years after treatment. Clinically, the five-year survival period is used to determine whether the treatment is successful. Because most tumors metastasize and relapse generally occur within 3 years after radical treatment, and a small number occur after 5 years, so if the tumor does not recur within 5 years after radical treatment, the chance of recurrence is very small, indicating that the treatment is successful. Therefore, care should be taken within 5 years to prevent recurrence and metastasis.
