What are the differences between axillary ringworm and body odor

Axillary tinea and body odor are both very common diseases. If you suffer from any of these two diseases, you are likely to be ignored and excluded by others. However, body odor is the most common disease in normal times, and it will also affect the people around you. Many people tend to confuse axillary tinea with body odor. In fact, there are essential differences between these two diseases. What are the differences between axillary tinea and body odor?

Although both body odor and axillary hair ringworm occur in the armpits, there are essential differences between the two.

1. The causes of the disease are different. Axillary tinea is a disease caused by bacteria, usually infection with Corynebacterium tenuissima, which causes symptoms related to axillary hair. It often occurs in young and middle-aged people who sweat easily, especially in summer and improves in winter. Body odor refers to the patient's sweat having a special smell, or emitting a smell after decomposition. The armpits are places where sweating is easy, so sweating under the armpits causes the sweat to emit a strange smell, which is body odor. Body odor will occur as long as you sweat, and it can appear all year round.

2. The symptoms are different. The symptoms of axillary tinea and body odor are very different. There are generally not many other symptoms of axillary hair ringworm. Usually, yellow, black or red nodular particles appear on the axillary hair. It looks disgusting and these particles are firmly attached to the hair shaft and are difficult to wash off. In addition, the pathogenic bacteria of this disease do not invade the hair roots or skin. Body odor only manifests itself as a smell, with no other symptoms on the body or armpit hair.

3. The treatment methods are different. Since the causes of axillary tinea and body odor are different, the treatments are also different. The treatment of axillary tinea is usually simple. You only need to shave the armpit hair and apply 5% sulfur cream locally. If there is a lot of sweat, you can use 1% formalin solution for treatment. The treatment of body odor is relatively troublesome. If the symptoms are mild, you can usually wash and change clothes frequently, and spray a little perfume on your body and armpits. If the symptoms are more serious, you can undergo minimally invasive surgery to remove the apocrine sweat glands. This method is more thorough and less likely to recur. In addition, you can also get botulinum toxin injections to control sweating.

Generally speaking, there is not much connection between axillary tinea and body odor, because axillary tinea is a bacterial infection disease, while body odor is more due to genetic factors. Therefore, body odor is relatively difficult to cure. As long as the sweat glands in the human body exist, the patient will involuntarily emit a special smell once sweating. Therefore, patients who are deeply troubled by body odor can choose to undergo minimally invasive surgery.
