Can B-ultrasound detect uterine cancer?

Uterine cancer is the most common gynecological malignancy. The peak age is 50-55 years old. Since the 1950s, the widespread use of cervical cytology has enabled the effective early detection and treatment of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions. Since the early symptoms of uterine cancer are not typical and the uterus is a muscular organ with thick walls, B-type color Doppler ultrasound is not very useful for early uterine cancer and is only useful for auxiliary diagnosis after uterine cancer is confirmed.

So what are the main clinical applications of gynecological B-ultrasound examination? Let's list them below:

1) Uterine tumors: including uterine fibroids, endometrial cancer and uterine sarcoma, etc., can distinguish uterine tumors from other abnormal masses;

2) Endometriosis: The location, size and shape of endometriotic cysts can be determined, with a diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of more than 96%;

3) Uterine malformation;

4) Ovarian tumors, pelvic inflammatory masses or abscesses, etc.

Therefore, B-ultrasound cannot check whether it is uterine cancer. Uterine cancer can be diagnosed by cervical scraping, colposcopy, and cervical scraping cytology: Curettage can detect cervical precancerous lesions and early cervical cancer. Because there is a false negative rate of more than 5%, patients should have regular checkups. Colposcopy can be used to assist in biopsy and cervical examination. The cause of cervical cancer is clear, and the screening method (HPV virus detection) is relatively complete. It is a preventable tumor. The early diagnosis of uterine cancer depends on cervical and endocervical canal biopsy rather than B-ultrasound examination.
