How long can you live after surgery for advanced kidney cancer

Since the treatment of kidney cancer is a long process, how long can patients with advanced kidney cancer live? There are many variables in how long patients with advanced kidney cancer can live. However, it is very important not to overwork or bear too much physical and mental burden. Let's learn about it together!

About half of renal cancers are still confined to the kidney when they are discovered, but 30% have already metastasized to distant sites when they are first diagnosed. Half of the cases will have distant metastases after surgery. The survival rate of renal cancer after surgery is roughly half at 3 years, 40% at 5 years, and 20% at 10 years. Only 3% of cases can survive for 3 years without any treatment.
For patients in stage I where the tumor is still confined to the kidney, the 5-year survival rate is 60% to 80%; for those whose tumor has spread to the perinephric fat (stage II), the 5-year survival rate is 45%; for those with metastasis to regional lymph nodes (stage III), the 5-year survival rate drops to 10% to 16%; and for those with distant metastasis (stage IV), the 5-year survival rate is 8% to 10%.
Patients with renal vein invasion have long been considered to have a poor prognosis. However, in recent years, many authors have reported that renal vein invasion does not affect prognosis in patients with stage I and II tumors (without lymph node invasion).
The prognosis of patients who develop distant metastases after a certain period of time after nephrectomy is very different from that of patients whose metastases are discovered when renal cancer is first diagnosed (Class IV). If the localized metastatic lesions can be removed in the former, the 5-year survival rate can be as high as 33%.
