On July 18, 2016, British pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline announced that its vaccine CervarixTM for preventing cervical cancer in women has obtained marketing authorization from the China Food and Drug Administration, becoming the first approved HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine for preventing cervical cancer in my country.
HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening together will provide Chinese women with better means to prevent cervical cancer. The State Food and Drug Administration stated on its official website on the 18th that this vaccine is the first new vaccine to be applied for listing in my country, and research data shows that the safety and effectiveness of its application in the target population in China are consistent with those abroad. The approval of this vaccine provides a new and effective means for the prevention of cervical cancer in my country.
