What items should be checked for teratoma

Teratoma is a very harmful disease. The incidence of the disease has gradually increased in recent years, which is something we do not want to see. Many patients are not very familiar with the disease and are not clear about the common knowledge about teratoma. Below we will give you a brief introduction to what we need to check for teratoma.

The following tests are usually performed for teratoma:

1. For patients with pelvic mass and ascites, in addition to the above examinations, abdominal puncture can be performed to extract ascites for cytological examination to find cancer cells to distinguish benign from malignant tumors.

2. For suspected teratoma, an abdominal X-ray can be taken to see whether there are bones or teeth in the tumor. If so, it is likely to be benign.

3. For patients with pelvic masses and abnormal vaginal bleeding or postmenopausal vaginal bleeding, estrogen levels can be checked and/or diagnostic curettage can be performed to indirectly understand the nature of the tumor.

4. Make a preliminary judgment on the nature of the tumor based on the patient's symptoms and gynecological examination, and then make a preliminary estimate of benign or malignant tumors through imaging examinations such as B-ultrasound, CT, and MRI.

What are the items to be checked for teratoma? Ovarian teratoma is common in young women and is mostly benign ovarian tumor. It can often be removed under laparoscopy. However, it is difficult to diagnose immature ovarian teratoma before surgery. It is usually diagnosed after postoperative pathological examination. Therefore, it is very important to distinguish between benign and malignant ovarian teratoma before surgery.
