What is the best surgical method for teratoma

The incidence of teratoma is currently on the rise. Most teratomas are benign. After diagnosis, surgical treatment is the first choice. So, what is the best surgical method for teratoma? Let's hear what the experts say.

Laparoscopic treatment is the best method for teratoma surgery. It is not only thorough but also minimally invasive, leaving no surgical scars on the abdomen. Laparoscopic teratoma removal surgery is not big, but it requires high technical skills. The proficiency and precision of the intraoperative operation are closely related to future pregnancy. The complete removal rate (unbroken tumor rate) of general laparoscopic doctors is only 50% under the microscope. The complete removal rate of our hospital is about 99%, and there are very few cases of endoscopic damage. If the endoscopic removal is ruptured, there is a possibility of peritoneal implantation and chemical peritonitis. Therefore, it is recommended that patients take responsibility for themselves and carefully choose the hospital and surgeon to visit. In most cases, ovarian teratoma surgery can retain normal ovarian tissue on the affected side (menopausal patients are recommended to remove the affected side of the adnexa). If the contralateral ovary is normal in preoperative B-ultrasound examination and intraoperative exploration, it is not dissected in principle. For teratomas in perimenopausal women, it is recommended to perform resection of the affected side of the adnexa or uterus plus bilateral adnexa. Currently, laparoscopic surgery is used to treat many young patients. Multiple bilateral ovarian teratomas can be removed laparoscopically. Some patients have very large teratomas, with a diameter greater than 13 cm and a lot of solid components, and may be better off with laparotomy.

Of course, each patient's situation has some particularities, and the treatment of any disease cannot be generalized, but should be individualized according to the specific situation. Therefore, only by listening carefully to the advice of specialists can you get the most appropriate treatment plan.
