Pituitary tumors are often accompanied by abnormal secretion of pituitary hormones in clinical cases. They are found during brain CT or MRI examinations. So, are there any symptoms of pituitary tumors that we can understand? Experts say that there are some symptoms of pituitary tumors. So, what are the abnormal symptoms of pituitary tumors? Abnormal symptoms of pituitary tumors: 1) Clinical manifestations caused by increased hormone secretion. 2) Clinical manifestations of decreased secretion of corresponding hormones caused by pituitary tumor compressing surrounding cell tissues: For example, adrenal cortex hypofunction can manifest as decreased appetite, fatigue, weight loss, low blood pressure, low blood sugar, and susceptibility to colds; hypothyroidism can manifest as fear of cold, decreased appetite, rough skin, hair loss, constipation, etc., and in children it can manifest as dementia, growth retardation, etc.; hypogonadism can manifest as male and female infertility, decreased libido, menstrual disorders or even amenorrhea in women, and male impotence; the clinical manifestations of decreased growth hormone secretion can manifest as short stature in children and as body fat concentrated in the abdomen, muscle relaxation and atrophy, aging, decreased self-awareness, osteoporosis, decreased resistance, and decreased sexual function in adults. 3) Symptoms of compression of surrounding structures: When the tumor grows above the sella turcica, it compresses the optic chiasm, which will manifest as decreased vision and visual field defects. Clinically, patients usually complain of frequent injuries. If the tumor invades the cavernous sinus of the neurovascular plexus around the pituitary gland, symptoms of nerve compression will appear, such as ptosis of the upper eyelid, dilated pupil and other clinical manifestations. 4) Pituitary stroke: During the growth of a tumor, due to poor vascular supply or abnormal growth of tumor blood vessels, under certain inducements, tumor bleeding and tumor tissue necrosis may occur. If the tumor is completely hemorrhagic and necrotic, and the tumor capsule ruptures, there will be severe headaches, nausea and vomiting, and even blindness and coma, requiring emergency surgical treatment. Most pituitary tumor strokes manifest as incomplete or partial pituitary strokes, which may be mild headaches, nausea and vomiting accompanied by general discomfort. No special treatment is required, and the patient's symptoms will resolve on their own within a few weeks. The clinical symptoms of some hormone-secreting tumors are alleviated. The above is an introduction to the abnormal symptoms of pituitary tumors. I hope it will be helpful to you. |
