How to diagnose pituitary tumors

How to diagnose pituitary tumors

Pituitary tumors do not have any obvious symptoms in the early stages, so they are often ignored, delaying treatment and causing serious harm to the disease. But how to diagnose pituitary tumors? Today we will learn how to diagnose pituitary tumors.

Diagnosis of pituitary tumors by pathological examination: This is the most reliable diagnostic method with a very low misdiagnosis rate.

Endocrine examination to diagnose pituitary tumors: Since most pituitary tumors have the function of secreting hormones, when the clinical manifestations are not obvious and imaging cannot indicate the presence of a tumor, the hormones of the pituitary tumor have already changed. Some cases of pituitary tumors can be diagnosed simply by endocrine testing.

CT scan: It is only useful for diagnosing large pituitary tumors, as it is easy to miss small pituitary tumors. It cannot be used as the main tool for diagnosing pituitary tumors.

MRI examination: It is the most important tool for diagnosing pituitary tumors. It can clearly show the size, shape, location, and relationship of the tumor with surrounding structures. Even tumors with a diameter of 2-3 mm can be displayed. However, the signals of some tumors are similar to those of surrounding normal pituitary tissues. It is difficult to distinguish between the two, and a combination of clinical manifestations and endocrine examinations is required for diagnosis.

Preventive care for pituitary tumors

Generally, it is preventive care after surgery, as follows:

1. Psychological comfort: pituitary tumors are benign brain tumors, and surgery is effective. After recovery, you can return to normal work;

2. Strengthen nutrition, eat more fresh, high-protein food, strengthen physical fitness, and make the body recover soon after illness;

3. Radiotherapy usually takes about one month after surgery. During radiotherapy, avoid going to public places, pay attention to nutrition, and measure blood count regularly;

4. Take medication as prescribed by the doctor and have a CT scan once a year.
