Should teratoma undergo surgery?

We know that surgery can be used to treat teratomas, but we don't want to have surgery. The main reason is that we are afraid of surgery, but you may miss the critical period for treating the disease. So do you know whether teratomas should be treated with surgery?

1. Teratoma requires surgery

Teratoma is a common tumor in clinical practice. It is divided into benign teratoma and malignant teratoma according to whether the tumor is benign or malignant. The cause of the disease is not clear, but it may be related to abnormal development of germ cells during the embryonic period. For small asymptomatic benign teratomas, surgery is generally not required. Close observation and regular follow-up are sufficient. For larger benign teratomas and malignant teratomas with compression symptoms, early surgery is recommended, especially for malignant teratomas, which may require adjuvant radiotherapy, chemotherapy, etc. after surgery.

2. Surgical Method

Patients with teratoma should not think that drugs can eliminate the disease, but must undergo surgical treatment. Because teratoma larger than three centimeters requires surgery as soon as possible, the surgery mainly uses laparoscopy or laparotomy. Because teratoma will have the characteristic of twisting, once twisted, emergency surgery is required. In most cases, patients need to remove the attachments on the twisted side.

3. Surgical Procedure

The key point of teratoma surgery is to completely remove the tumor to avoid benign teratoma. Delaying surgery may lead to malignant transformation. At the same time, it is also necessary to prevent infection, rupture or bleeding of the tumor and complications. The best surgical method is laparoscopic surgery, which will not leave scars on the abdomen. Patients need to choose a regular hospital for treatment.

4. Importance of Surgery

Teratoma is not a terrible disease. 95% of patients have mature teratomas. Some patients have benign tumors, and only 5% have immature teratomas. Generally, patients need to undergo pathological examinations to be diagnosed. The risks of open surgery are relatively high. Therefore, patients can choose laparoscopic surgery, and it is best to remove it as early as possible.

We must make it clear that drugs are ineffective and the condition should be diagnosed as soon as possible. If the tumor is too large, surgery is necessary. The patient needs to go to the hospital for treatment as soon as possible, which is the guarantee of health.
