Can esophageal squamous cell carcinoma be cured? There is no way to completely cure it

With the current medical level, there is no way to completely cure esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. However, if surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and other treatments are actively chosen in the early stages of the disease, the 5-year survival rate can reach 30% to 40%. If the survival period after surgery exceeds 5 years without recurrence, it is considered clinically cured.

Esophageal cancer is a very serious malignant tumor. According to pathological classification, esophageal cancer is divided into esophageal squamous cell carcinoma, esophageal adenocarcinoma, etc. Among them, esophageal squamous cell carcinoma is more common. So can esophageal squamous cell carcinoma be cured?
1. Can esophageal squamous cell carcinoma be cured?
With the current medical level, there is no way to completely cure esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. However, if it is actively treated in the early stage of the disease, the 5-year survival rate can reach 30%~40%. It is generally believed that a survival period of more than 5 years without recurrence is considered clinically cured. If the disease has developed to the late stage, the prognosis is poor and the survival period may be only about 6~10 months.
How to treat esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
1. Surgical treatment
In the early stage of the disease, surgery is the most common treatment method. By completely removing the lesion, the survival period can be effectively prolonged.
2. Chemoradiotherapy
If the cancer cells have already metastasized proximally, after surgical removal of the lesion, chemoradiotherapy is still needed to kill the remaining cancer cells in the body and reduce the recurrence rate of the disease. If the disease has progressed to the late stage and surgical treatment is not possible, chemoradiotherapy can also be chosen to prolong survival.
