Advantages and disadvantages of paraffin sections of gastric cancer? Pay attention to these points

Gastric cancer is a malignant tumor originating from the gastric mucosa and is one of the most common malignant tumors. With the advent of various new instruments and the continuous establishment and use of new technologies and methods, paraffin sectioning technology has gradually expanded and penetrated into many new fields, providing effective experiments or samples as a basic technology. It is widely used in research in many other disciplines. The advantage of paraffin sectioning is that it can be preserved for a long time, but its disadvantage is that it cannot truly reflect the nature of the lesion.

Nowadays, due to bad daily living and eating habits, coupled with environmental influences, the incidence of cancer is getting higher and higher. For example, gastric cancer patients are directly related to poor diet. In addition, people's pace of life is too fast now, and staying up late has become commonplace, which leads to slow metabolism and abnormal cell secretion of a factor, which will cause cancer over time. Paraffin sections are used in the examination and treatment of gastric cancer. So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of paraffin sections of gastric cancer?
The biggest advantage of the paraffin section method is that it can cut thin slices (2-3 microns), which are thin and uniform without wrinkles. Paraffin sections have better tissue fixation and have advantages in preserving tissue structure after staining. Paraffin-embedded tissue blocks are easy to store for a long time, and patients can retrieve them at any time during the future medical record exchange without fading.
Paraffin sections are a relatively economical and stable sectioning method that can be preserved for a long time. HE staining is often used clinically, that is, hematoxylin is used to stain the cell nucleus, and eosin is used to stain the cytoplasm and other extracellular deposits. The advantage is that pathologists can make judgments directly through observation under a microscope and find suspicious lesions.
Although paraffin sections are the most commonly used and common method among various slice preparation methods, they also have disadvantages. The disadvantage of paraffin sections is that the results can only indicate morphological changes and the waiting time for the results is long. If frozen sections are used instead, the morphology of the diseased cells will be distorted, which is not conducive to the diagnosis of pathologists. The results can only provide morphological changes and often cannot truly reflect the nature of the lesion.
The results of paraffin section experiments for gastric cancer need to be interpreted by a pathologist, mainly an endoscopist or a gastroenterologist to make a judgment based on the patient's condition. The results of paraffin section experiments for gastric cancer are the basis for the doctor's comprehensive analysis of the condition. The doctor will perform a local mucosal biopsy. If the patient's cancer is more special, the report may indicate epithelial carcinoma. If there is a ring-like change, it is signet ring cell carcinoma. Clinicians need to interpret the results of paraffin section experiments for gastric cancer based on the patient's specific condition.
