MRI is the most effective examination for staging prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is the most common malignant tumor of the male reproductive system. Its incidence increases with age. There are obvious regional differences in its incidence, which is higher in Europe and the United States. It is reported to be the second leading cause of cancer death in men, second only to lung cancer. The incidence in my country was relatively low in the past, but has increased in recent years due to the aging of the population. At the same time, due to the continuous improvement of the diagnostic methods for prostate cancer, such as radioimmunoassay of acid phosphatase, determination of lactate dehydrogenase in prostate fluid, transrectal ultrasound imaging, CT examination and improvement of prostate puncture needles, prostate cancer can be diagnosed early, which also increases the incidence of prostate cancer.

MRI is most commonly used for preoperative staging of prostate cancer that has been confirmed by puncture biopsy. Currently, digital rectal examination and serum pSA test are the preferred methods for diagnosing prostate cancer, and ultrasound-guided transurethral biopsy is the confirmed method for prostate cancer. MRI is not suitable for the first choice of examination method for prostate cancer, but it is one of the most effective imaging methods for prostate cancer staging. The accuracy of transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) and MRI using body coils for prostate cancer staging is about 60-70%, and the application of transrectal coils has made MRI more accurate than transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) for prostate cancer staging. The most important feature is that its accuracy in judging whether prostate cancer has capsule infiltration and seminal vesicle invasion is 64% and 97% respectively. The accuracy and limitations of MRI in detecting prostate cancer lymph node metastasis are similar to those of CT scanning.
