How to deal with bone metastasis of prostate cancer

Prostate cancer is a common malignant tumor disease. Middle-aged and elderly men are the main patients of this disease. Therefore, men are required to go to the hospital regularly for relevant examinations after reaching a certain age. The symptoms of this disease are not particularly obvious in the early stages. Therefore, if you do not have the habit of regular examinations, you will generally only find abnormalities when metastasis occurs. In fact, there are many sites of prostate cancer metastasis, and the most common one is bone metastasis. What should we do after bone metastasis? This is also a concern of many patients and their families.

Clinically, more than 80% of prostate cancer patients will develop bone metastasis, most of which will occur in the blood-rich parts of the bones. The most common symptom of patients is bone pain, and their diet and normal life will be greatly affected. Most patients will become increasingly thin and painful. Bones will also be eaten away by tumor cells bit by bit, and the chance of pathological fractures will be greatly increased.

What to do after prostate cancer bone metastasis

1. Endocrine therapy: Endocrine therapy is also called drug castration therapy in clinical practice. Degarelix is a relatively good antagonist at present. Many patients will first consider this method after bone metastasis. Degarelix can reduce the level of testosterone in a short time.

2. Half-body radiotherapy: When painkillers are ineffective, we should consider half-body radiotherapy. After treatment, nearly half of the patients will have complete relief of bone pain symptoms. However, this treatment method also has very serious side effects and many complications, so the current application rate is not particularly high.

3. Radionuclide therapy: This method can combine radionuclides with bone cells. It is a relatively advanced treatment method that can control the disease by injecting drugs. There are also relatively few clinical side effects, which will not affect the patient's survival and quality of life.

If timely measures are not taken to control prostate cancer in the early and middle stages, bone metastasis is likely to occur in the late stages. Patients often feel pain in their bones, their appetite and sleep quality will be greatly affected, and their weight will drop rapidly in a short period of time. After bone metastasis, we can no longer use active treatment measures and can only try our best to use endocrine therapy or radionuclide therapy to reduce the patient's pain.
