The National Cancer Institute in Maryland, USA, found that men who have a tendency to baldness before the age of 45 have an increased risk of developing prostate cancer in later life. The findings may help doctors predict prostate cancer in the future. The researchers analyzed the baldness of 39,000 men aged 55 to 74, asking them to describe with pictures their receding hairline and hair loss at age 45. During an average follow-up of 2.78 years, 1,138 incident prostate cancers were diagnosed, of which 571 were invasive. The average age at diagnosis of prostate cancer was 72 years. The results showed that men with frontal and moderate top baldness at age 45 did not have a significantly increased overall risk of prostate cancer, and their risk of non-aggressive prostate cancer was unchanged, compared with those without hair loss. However, their risk of aggressive prostate cancer was 39% higher than that of men without hair loss. What factors are related to prostate cancer? 1. Age. The older a man is, the higher his chance of developing prostate cancer. 2. Environment. Studies have shown that cadmium pollution in the external environment increases the incidence of prostate cancer. 3. Infection. Long-term, chronic bacterial or viral infection will greatly increase the chance of prostate cancer. 4. Diet. Eating a large amount of saturated fatty acids in your daily diet will increase your chances of developing prostate cancer, as saturated fatty acids are inducers of prostate cancer. 5. Heredity. If a relative or friend has prostate cancer, the chance of getting prostate cancer is higher than the average person; in other words, about 9% of prostate cancer patients have a family history of the disease. 6. Hormone levels in the body. The more male hormones a person secretes, the greater the chance of developing prostate cancer. For this reason, people who have been castrated or have testicular dysplasia will not get prostate cancer, but I believe no man is willing to pay this price to stay away from prostate cancer. |
