Should thyroid cancer be treated with surgery?

Whether thyroid cancer requires surgery depends mainly on the stage of thyroid cancer, pathological type and the patient's physical condition. Generally speaking, surgical treatment is recommended for patients with early thyroid cancer, while surgical treatment is not recommended for patients with advanced thyroid cancer.

1. Early thyroid cancer: For patients with early thyroid cancer, surgical treatment is generally recommended because the tumor is small and there is no lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis. Because the patient's condition is relatively mild at this time, surgical resection can achieve the purpose of cure. If surgical treatment is not performed in time, it may cause the condition to worsen further, and in severe cases, it may be life-threatening;

2. Advanced thyroid cancer: For patients with advanced thyroid cancer, due to the large size of the tumor and the presence of lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis, even surgical treatment cannot completely cure the disease. Therefore, surgical treatment is not recommended for such patients to avoid affecting their health. It is usually recommended that such patients follow the doctor's advice to use chemotherapy drugs such as paclitaxel injection and cisplatin injection, or adjuvant treatment with radioactive iodine-131;

3. Other situations: For some thyroid cancer patients with poor physical condition, they may not be able to tolerate surgical trauma during the course of the disease. At this time, it is not recommended for such patients to undergo surgical treatment to avoid aggravating physical discomfort symptoms. It is usually recommended that such patients follow the doctor's advice to use drugs such as levothyroxine sodium tablets for conservative treatment.

In daily life, patients are advised to take a rest and avoid staying up late. At the same time, they should also pay attention to healthy diet, eat more nutrient-rich foods, and eat less spicy, irritating, and greasy foods. If any discomfort occurs, they should go to the hospital in time and actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment.
