Isn't thyroid cancer classified as cancer?

Thyroid cancer is a malignant tumor and belongs to the category of cancer. Thyroid cancer includes four types: papillary carcinoma, follicular carcinoma, medullary carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma, of which papillary carcinoma accounts for more than 90% of all thyroid cancer types.

1. Papillary carcinoma: Papillary carcinoma is the most common thyroid cancer, accounting for about 85% of all thyroid cancers, and is more common in female patients. Papillary carcinoma grows slowly and has no obvious symptoms in the early stage. A lump or swollen lymph nodes in the neck are often found during a physical examination. Papillary carcinoma can metastasize, but the metastasis is relatively late, mainly through the bloodstream to the lungs, and can also metastasize to the cervical lymph nodes through the lymphatic system;

2. Follicular carcinoma: Follicular adenocarcinoma accounts for about 5%-10% of all thyroid cancers and is common in male patients. Follicular adenocarcinoma grows rapidly, and neck masses and cervical lymphadenopathy may appear in the early stages. Follicular adenocarcinoma may metastasize to distant sites, mainly through the bloodstream, and mainly to the lungs;

3. Medullary carcinoma: Medullary carcinoma accounts for about 5% of all thyroid cancers and is common in male patients. Medullary carcinoma has a secretory function and can produce substances such as calcitonin and 5-hydroxytryptamine. Medullary carcinoma can metastasize to distant sites through the blood and lymphatic channels, and its distant metastasis rate is relatively high;

4. Undifferentiated carcinoma: Undifferentiated carcinoma accounts for about 5% of all thyroid cancers and is common in elderly patients. Undifferentiated carcinoma is highly malignant and develops rapidly. Neck masses and cervical lymphadenopathy may appear in the early stages. Undifferentiated carcinoma can metastasize to distant sites through the blood and lymphatic channels.

In addition to the above, medullary thyroid tumor is also a type of thyroid tumor, not cancer. Patients diagnosed with thyroid disease should pay attention to a light diet in their daily lives and avoid spicy and greasy foods.
