How to treat thyroid cancer without surgery

How to treat thyroid cancer without surgery

If thyroid cancer patients do not undergo surgical treatment, they can be treated through other treatment options, such as iodine-131 therapy, immune, targeted and other combined treatments, or surgical treatments such as resection. Radionuclide therapy can also be used.

1. Iodine-131 treatment: The beta rays emitted by iodine-131 are used to destroy the thyroid follicular epithelial cells, shrinking the thyroid gland without affecting adjacent tissues, thereby reducing the recurrence rate of thyroid cancer;

2. Immunotherapy: drugs can be used to stimulate the body to produce specific antibodies to prevent tumor proliferation. Commonly used drugs in clinical practice include tacrolimus and afatinib;

3. Targeted therapy: refers to targeted treatment through genetic testing. After genetic testing, if there is a gene mutation, targeted drugs such as erlotinib hydrochloride and gefitinib can be used for treatment;

4. Radionuclide therapy: Using radionuclide β rays to generate high radiation energy at the tumor site, causing tumor cells to die, thereby achieving the purpose of controlling tumor growth.

If the patient does not undergo surgical treatment, the appropriate treatment plan can be adopted according to the stage and pathological type of thyroid cancer. Patients with early thyroid cancer can undergo surgery to remove cancerous tissue. If the patient is in the late stage of thyroid cancer, there may be lymph node metastasis or distant metastasis. In this case, in addition to surgical resection, radionuclide therapy or other auxiliary treatments are required. Patients should maintain a good attitude and actively cooperate with doctors for treatment. After scientific and effective treatment, the survival rate can be improved.
